Air security scenario in South reviewed

Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Jolly, who took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command this week, said on Thursday that the air defence and communication networks of the command will be expanded.

He was addressing the commanders of SAC while reviewing the security scenario in the southern peninsula.

The increasing importance of peninsular and the Indian Ocean region, the SAC’s area of jurisdiction, will necessitate a major operational transformation in the command, the Air Marshal  said. Induction of modern aircraft in the coming years is a part of this, he added.

Communications and air defence networks such as radars are to be modernised and expanded. For this, preparatory infrastructure works are in progress and they have to be closely monitored, Jolly said.

He also stressed the important role of cyber and information security in the overall security concerns of the nation.

He urged air warriors to focus on operational capability, operational infrastructure and operational security.
