New Delhi: According to a report from TechCrunch, a technology website, Amazon is working on a new Kindle that features an illuminated screen. The new Kindle is expected to be rolled out sometime this year.
Devin Coldewey from TechCrunch thinks that he has seen it. He says that as you tap, a slider pops up on the screen, and when it is dragged to the right, the screen lit up evenly with a rather cool light. The light is said to be gentler, and of a blue-white color, compared to the harsh white common in LCDs.
Amazon's purchase of Oy Modilis, the world leader in light-guide technology, adds credence to the report that states that an e-reader with some form of lighting is in the works. "Incidentally, that acquisition doesn't appear to have ever been reported, so although it happened in late 2010, this is the first anyone has heard of it," reported TechCrunch.
As far as the shape of the device is concerned, Coldewey says it is impossible to tell - as the device was wrapped in its little cardboard box. But the size appears the same.
Though it can not be said as to when the device will be rolled out, but it is hinted that the new Kindle may hit sometime this year.
