Angola is one of the five participants from the Africa. Situated on the west coast of the continent, Angola have quailified for the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time in their sixth attempt.

Angola's qualification campaign was not easy and they narrowly edged out one of the continental powehouse Nigeria to book their ticket to Germany.

Coached by the 'Professor' of Angolan football Luis Oliveira Goncalves the path to Germany was marked by great team spirit and resilience.

Captain Akwa played a crucial role in the qualification campaign and was the one who found the net with the all-important winner over Nigeria in Luanda that saw his team top the group and secure the berth.

The key players apart from Akwa are forward Mantorras, Figueirido, Joao Pereira, Maurito and Ze Kalanga.

The squad that clinched the qualification to Germany included many players who won the African U-20 title and the entered the second round of the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2001.

"We have proved that Angola is not just about oil, war and poverty," Akwa said.
