GRUVAYUR: Bhagavatha Acharya Anjam Krishnan Namboothiri, 78, died at a private hospital at Kunnamkulam on Sunday afternoon. The body, which was brought here in the evening, was kept at the Narayanalayam to enable his friends, well-wishers and the public to pay homage. Later, the body was taken to Anjam Illam at Pattambi where the cremation will be held on Monday. Krishnan Namboothiri, who began to give Bhagavatha discourses in 1977, followed the traditional style. He had also given discourses in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, London and Ireland and other countries. He was also the Acharya of several Sapthahams conducted at several places, including Puri, Haridwar, Badari New Delhi, Mattunga, Mumbai, Vasi, and at various temples in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. During a span of around four decades, Anjam Krishnan Namboothiri was the Acharya of nearly 2,000 Sapthahams and the last one was at the Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple during the Vaisakham month. Anjam Krishnan Namboothiri was a bachelor. He took charge of the Sri Guruvayurappan Sankeerthana Trust and the Narayanalayam after the death of his elder brother Thirunamacharyan Anjam Madhavan Namboothiri. The daily Namajapam and the Annadanam, which were begun by his elder brother Thirunamacharyan Anjam Madhavan Namboothiri, were still being continued at the Narayanalayam. He was also the chief editor of the Sree Guruvayurappan magazine. Krishnan Namboothiri also began the Narayana Nama Kodi Archana at the Narayanalayam 18 years ago. He maintained a devotional relationship with the late Bhagavatha Hamsam Malliyoor Sankaran Namboothiripad and Kanchi Kamakodi Matathipathi Jayendra Saraswathi. Son of Anjam Madhusoodanan Somayajippad and Parvathy Pathanadi, Anjam Krishnan Namboothiri was born in 1934. After preliminary education in Sanskrit and the Vedas, he joined Brahmaswom Madom, Thrissur. He began conducting Srimad Bhagavatha Sapthahams along with his elder brother Thirunamacharyan Anjam Madhavan Namboothiri.
