Apple a Day case handed over to ACP

KOCHI: The investigation into the controversial Apple A Day properties case was on Sunday handed over to Central Assistant Commissioner of Police C A Anto as there have been allegations that a Circle Inspector in the city has been leaking information to the accused in the case.Police confirmed that a meeting of senior police officials was held to review the progress of probe into the case and has decided to hand over the supervision of the case to Anto. Deputy Commissioner of Police P A Valsan said that five special squads have been formed to probe the case and the functioning of the squads will be supervised by Anto.Valsan also said the police had frozen the bank accounts of the accused, who had gone into hiding after cases were registered against them. The police have also begun proceedings to seize the properties of the accused.It is also learnt that the accused K A Saju and C Rajeev Kumar, managing director and director of the real estate company, have approached the court for anticipatory bail. Though a lookout notice has been issued for the accused, it has not yet yielded any result so far. Around 40 complaints have been received against the company. According to preliminary investigation, the company had cheated people by amassing around Rs 80 crore in the name of two real estate projects.
