Bangalore: Police on Friday arrested a man they claimed was a Kashmiri terrorist and carried a map showing the location of the city airport and the Infosys campus.
Imran alias Bilal, 32, was arrested outside Bangalore when he arrived by a private bus that came from Hospet in Bellary district.
Inspector General of Police K R Srinivasan said an AK-47 gun, 300 rounds of ammunition, four AK-47 magazines, SIM cards, a satellite phone and documents were found in Imran’s bags.
Imran was produced before a court for a 14-day police remand for interrogation. Police have registered a case against Imran under the Arms Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Act.
Srinivasan and Bangalore City Police Commissioner Neelam Achyut Rao said police were investigating whether Imran had boarded the bus from Hospet or he came from some other place.
"It is too early for us to divulge more information about the suspected militant's motives and why he was carrying the arms and ammunition. We have sought his remand to find out his antecedents, when he entered the state, how long he has been staying at Hospet and who are all involved with him," Srinivasan was quoted by IANS as saying.
Imran’s arrest comes after the arrest of two militants near Mysore on October 27. A professor from Delhi was killed by militants over a year ago in the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus.
