Incheon: With just a day remaining for the opening of the 17th Asian Games, the Indian women's hockey team is busy making last-minute preparations and keen to avoid past mistakes, eyeing a winning start to their campaign.

The team is going through a steady dose of practice matches and tune-up sessions to iron out their flaws. Captain Ritu Rani said that chief coach Neil Hawgood wants the team to create more goal-scoring opportunities.

She praised vice captain Deepika for providing support to the team. "Living up to her role and responsibilities, Deepika is holding the pack of defenders and goalkeeper Savita together."

Ritu added that the team identified they were losing possession of the ball in front of the opposition goal mouth during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and are trying to rectify the mistakes.

"We are concentrating on improving our ball possession skills as well as converting penalty corners," she said.

India's first match is against Thailand on September 22.
