Akron, Ohio: Arjun Atwal tumbled badly in the last eight holes to card a one-over 71 but still managed to rise three rungs to tied 42nd after the third round of the Word Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational here.
Atwal, started on 10th and birdied the first two holes on but then parred the next seven before finding a third birdie on the first.
Then came the slid with bogeys on second, third, seventh and ninth as he missed out several putts. Atwal's three-day total stands at two-over 212.
Adam Scott was back in sole lead with a four-under 66 at Firestone. He was at 12-under 198 and one shot ahead of young guns Jason Day and Ryo Ishikawa of Japan, who if he wins, will be the youngest winner of a PGA Tour event in 100 years.
Tiger Woods, a seven-time winner of the event, struggled with his putting and shot 72. He was in a tie for 36th in the 76-player field.
World number one Luke Donald (64) moved to tied sixth, while US Open winner Rory McIlroy had a 67 and was 10th. Lee Westwood (68) was tied 18th.
