HYDERABAD: After branding his potential political opponents— TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy corrupt, it is now time for TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu to get his political arithmetic right. What is Naidu’s new equation? It’s simple.33+33+33 = 294 and power (Allotment of 33 per cent of seats each to youth, BCs and women). The TDP chief is banking heavily on the votes of youth, Backward Classes and women to win the elections. As part of the winning formula, Naidu will give 33 per cent of seats to BCs, if not 50 per cent as demanded by some BC organisations, in the next elections. He will also encourage women to join active politics by giving 33 per cent of party tickets to them. The TDP chief who recently held a meeting with the BCs, assured them that they would be given due share in allotment of the party tickets in the next elections.Participating in a Telugu Mahila meeting a few days ago, he exhorted women to start gearing up for the next elections. The Women’s Reservation Bill may be in place by 2014 and women will naturally get 33 per cent ofquota in the Legislative bodies.Naidu wants to use the opportunity to project himself as a leader committed to the political empowerment of women. But the main drawback in the TDP poll strategy is that several seniors are still in the race for Assembly tickets. It is not so easy for the TDP leadership to ignore them. The TDP chief wants to field many new faces in the next Assembly elections which are crucial for the 28-year-old regional party. Its very survival is dependent on the poll outcome as it cannot afford another debacle. A two-day session of Telugu Yuvatha began on Sunday which will focus on rejuvenating the party.
