PARADIP: Villagers of Nuagaon and Gadakujang have sought the intervention of National Human Rights Commission to stop land acquisition for the proposed project till the renewal of MoU between the State Government and Posco. Betel vine labourers also requested NHRC Rapporteur Damodar Sarangi to take up their case for maintenance allowance. Sarangi visited Polang, Bhuiyanpal, Noliasahi of Gadakujang panchayat on Friday and interacted with project-affected villagers.The labourers complained that while the owners were compensated following demolition of betel vines, they are now without a livelihood option. Though the betel vine workers are eligible for 20 per cent of the total compensation paid to the vine owners along with unemployed allowance of Rs. 2,250 per month for a year or till engaged in the company, they are yet to get the benefits, the labourers alleged.At Dhinkia and Godindpur, the villagers submitted Records of Right to Sarangi. Posco Partirodh Sangram Samiti president Abhaya Sahu was present.
