VELLORE: Despite facing stiff competition from India and abroad, the Boiler Auxiliaries plant (BAP) of Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) at Ranipet has performed exceedingly well, according to its executive director T N Veeraraghavan. It has also bagged the ‘Best Productive Unit’ trophy from among all the units of BHEL this year. Giving details about the performance of the BAP at the annual press meet here on Thursday, Veeraragahavan said that the plant has clocked a turnover of `4,210 crore with shop production crossing the 1 lakh metric tonne benchmark. The plant also registered a profit before tax of `1,260 crore, an increase of 8.6 per cent over last year’s. While the plant’s physical dispatch had crossed 3 lakh tonne mark, with the establishment of plant capacity to deliver 20,000 MW per annum, a quantum jump of 51 per cent in research and development expenditure of `124 crore as compared to last year’s `82 crore. The plant has so far obtained 21 patents and 46 copyrights.Measures taken to reduce material consumption, increasing manpower efficiency, reduction of cycle time through e-procurement and techno commercial MoU initiatives and implementation of over 500 productivity improvement projects had resulted in achieving the profit with ease, he added.
