New Delhi: Alleging that the UPA Government had failed to fulfill its promise on Telangana as given in the Common Minimum Programme, the BJP on Tuesday said it would support the Bill providing for statehood for the Telangana region.
''We are always in favour of a Telengana state,'' BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra told mediapersons at a briefing in Parliament House premises. ''Let the UPA Government bring a bill in this regard... we will support it,'' he added.
Accusing the Manmohan Singh Government for playing 'vote bank' politics, he said this government ''only believed in constituting committees.'' ''It had failed to honour its own promise to the Telangana people,'' he said.
Prof Malhotra said it was time for the TRS to take a decisive decision and force the Congress-led coalition government to bring a bill for a Telangana state, failing which it would also be accused of defrauding the people of the region.
