ROURKELA: As many as 24 education staff were punished during the two-day visit of a 20-member team of School and Mass Education Department led by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aparajita Sarangi. Wrapping up her surprise visit to 152 schools across Sundargarh, Rourkela and Bonai educational districts on Wednesday, Sarangi lauded the functioning of Sundargarh education district. However, she termed the Bonai education district as the ‘worst managed’. The Bonai DI Subhendra Mallick was forthwith served  suspension order.Sarangi also found fault with the transfer of 168 teachers in Bonai and asked the Sundargarh Collector to submit a report by August 16 for further action. The local administration would also file a report by August 20 to ascertain who were responsible for the delay in supply of books to schools. Sarangi denied that teachers were engaged in works other than teaching.About the faulty transfer of teachers, she said the Government was working on an effective transfer policy and that all orders relating to deputation of teachers stood invalid.  She was accompanied by Sundargarh Collector Rupa Roshan Sahu. Among those punished included two inspectors of schools (SIs), one BRC, four CRCCs and 12 teachers whose salary was withheld and faced departmental proceedings while three sikhya sahayaks were disengaged.
