KOCHI: The NH 47, NH 17 Joint Action Council has alleged that the BOT Mafia was engaged in spreading a false propaganda with regard to the development of the National Highway. They alleged that certain officials and political leaders were also involved in such activities.When about 4,000 acres of land had to be acquired on both sides of the 850-km-long NH 47 and NH 17, it had been propagated that only 2,280 acres of land had to be acquired.Refuting the claims that the Centre had approved the NH package, they alleged that the Centre had said that it could not bring out a separate package for the state. The Action Council also said that the package put forth by the state government did not contain any rehabilitation package for the people who lost their land. The package also did not say that the Government would rehabilitate the traders, but merely proposed that the local bodies should try to relocate them, they alleged.The Action Council further stated that there was much contradiction in the number of families that would be rehabilitated. The National Highway Authority had at first said that about 11,000 families would have to be rehabilitated. But later, they said that about 50,000 families should have to be relocated.
