HYDERABAD: PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana on Monday came in defence of labour minister Danam Nagender, who is in the eye of a storm for allegedly snatching a lathi from a policeman and sending his followers to rough up to two Telangana activists for hurling eggs at his vehicle on Sunday.Satyanarayana, speaking to mediapersons said: “Nagender’s men attacked the two T activists in selfdefence. It was not proper on the part of T activists to target a minister who belongs to the Backward Classes.” The PCC chief dwelt most on the attack on Nagender’s vehicle rather than what happened subsequently and advised the T activists and not the minister not to incite violence.“There is no room for violence in a movement.Let us achieve our goal through non-violence,” he said.Referring to the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme, Satyanarayana made an appeal to the striking government employees to call off their agitation.“You have made your point clear. The government and the Congress are seized of the issue. The party is trying to find a solution to the problem. Please do not think calling off the strike is capitulation. It is only to end the hardships being faced by the people and also you,” Satyanarayana said.He wanted the striking employees to keep in mind the need for development in all sectors which has taken a back seat ever since they took to agitation path.“It is our responsibility to see that we should not derail the process of development in the state,” he said.On the Banswada byelection result, he said though the Congress lost it, its candidate secured about 33,000 votes which was itself an achievement.“It is also an endorsement of the people’s faith in the policies that the Congress is pursuing at the national level,” he said, expressing confidence that in future, the party taking inspiration from the support the people had extended, would forge ahead to put up a better performance.Meanwhile, Nagender, speaking to mediapersons, said the attack on him was part of a conspiracy hatched by the TRS.The TRS which wanted to project him as an anti-Dalit, was trying to inflame passions. He alleged that TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and TJAC chairman M Kodandaram were more interested in projecting themselves as leaders rather than taking the T movement forward. He said the attack on T activists was only a reaction from his followers.Nagender found fault with TRS leader T Harish Rao for trying to paint him as an anti-Dalit forgetting the fact that the latter himself was involved in thrashing an SC officer in Delhi not very long ago.

What's your reaction?
