HYDERABAD: Going by the day temperatures, it seems summer has already set in. And if you are sweating, there is more bad news on the way.The city will experience a temperature of 40 degrees celsius in a couple of weeks, predicts S Venkateswara Rao, assistant meteorologist, meteorological centre, Hyderabad.Speaking to City Express, he said south Telangana and Rayalseema regions would get a feel of 40 degrees celsius in 4-5 days.Explaining the dry climate prevailing over the city, he said it was due to lack of moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.“High pressure in the seas is not strong enough or intensified. There is no cloud formation due to absence of moisture,” he said while pointing out that on Tuesday, the humidity level was a mere 12% whereas it requires a humidity of atleast 55% for cloud formations in the sky.He further pointed out that the minimum temperatures in the city have been normal whereas it was the maximum temperatures that are shooting up.“The skies are clear without clouds which is why the temperature at night drops down quickly,” he said.According to him, winter had set in quite early last year but lacked consistency and fizzled out as early as February, giving signals of a harsh summer. The summer this year is expected to be real hot and dry.“But the meteorological department is currently in no position to predict the harshness of summer,” he said.Though there have been reports of parts of Rayalseema region receiving rainfall of up to 2mm on Tuesday morning, Rao is quite confident that Hyderabad would not receive summer showers. The reason is clear: Absence of moisture and hence, no cloud cover.Currently, the maximum temperatures in the city has been fluctuating between 33 and 36, and it’s just a matter of days when it touches 40.So, brace yourself to face the heat.
