BANGALORE: From this academic year, the process for hostel accommodation for PG and PhD courses has been centralised. The new centralised process does not require students to fill an additional form for hostel accommodation.Speaking to The New Indian Express, Dr Erasi K, chairman of the Committee of PG Admissions, said that the new system is convenient for both students and the university.“Earlier, the process was handled by Dean Student Welfare (DSW). This meant that after securing seats here, students had to go to DSW’s office for hostel accommodation. We have done away with it this time,” he said. With centralised hostel accommodation processing, BU will allot hostels according to three criteria — income, distance and merit order. “Candidates with the lowest income, farthest distance and higher merit will be allotted hostels,” Erasi said.“To avoid wrongful allotment of hostels based on distance, we ask students to bring a distance certificate issued by a resident engineer,” he added. He further said that the response for the centralised system has been good, and allotment of hostels is now much faster than before.“The new system ensures that we have all the necessary information for allotment of hostels. Also, students will not have to run around,” said Erasi. The current phase of hostel allotment is being finalised for PG and PhD students. “The final list will be announced on Monday,” he said.
