The slaves who escaped from their colonial masters developed the art form to protect themselves. A dance form as well as martial art, Capoeira is fast becoming the new fitness craze all across the world. A fast-paced workout is bound to give one an insight into the Brazilian culture as well. There are several brazilian dance forms: Coco — With African and West Indian influences, Coco is a circle dance accompanied by singing. It is performed in pairs, rows or circles. It is said that the origin of Coco coincided with the need to complete floors inside the houses, which were made of clay at the time. Frevo - the practise of capoeira was prohibited by colonial soldiers and if anyone was seen playing it, he was arrested immediately. That is where Frevo came in. The capoeira players used big umbrellas to hide their movements. Cacuria - The Cacuria is a typical dance of the state of Maranhao in the North-east of Brazil.
