Cash seized from jailed MLA involved in cash-for-bail scam

Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google News The Cherlapally Central Jailofficials today seized an amount of Rs 15,000 from jailedBellary city MLA Gali Somashekhar Reddy, an accused in thecash-for-bail scam involving his brother and former Karnatakaminister Gali Janardhan Reddy.Cherlapally jail officials conducted surprise checksin different barracks of the jail as per directions given byDirector-General (Prisons and Correctional Services) T P Das,Cherlapally Superintendent of Police Srinivas Rao told PTI.Incidentally, cash was seized only from SomashekharReddy during the surprise check.After he was questioned, Somashekhar said that hisfamily members had given him the amount and he kept it inorder to offer it to Lord Venkateshwara, the superintendentexplained.As the amount was kept without informing jailofficials, authorities have decided to punish SomashekharReddy by stopping visitors meeting him, Rao said.Somashekhar who has been charged with playing a keyrole in offering bribes worth several crores of rupees tosuspended judge T Pattabhirama Rao for granting bail to miningbaron Janardhan Reddy, is the second legislator from Karnatakato be arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB), on August 6 following the arrest of BJP's Kampli MLA TH Suresh Babu.He is also the eleventh person to be arrested so farby ACB in the bail scandal involving three serving judgesincluding Pattabhirama Rao.first published:January 01, 1970, 05:30 ISTlast updated:January 01, 1970, 05:30 IST
