HYDERABAD: The Special CBI Court on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Jagati Publication Limited’s vice- chairman Vijay Sai Reddy against the CBI in connection with YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s illegal assets case. Sai Reddy had urged the court to issue directions to the CBI to probe the matter only for the period between 2004 and 2009 as directed by the High Court. He alleged that the CBI violated the High Court’s directions and was threatening the witnesses and recording their statements as part of their investigation. During the arguments that took place a few days ago, Reddy’s counsel Umamaheshwar Rao alleged that the line of investigation adopted by the CBI was far beyond the scope of enquiry permitted by the High Court. On August 17, the CBI had registered a case against Jagan on the instructions of the High Court for alleged offences such as cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust under the IPC. In the FIR, CBI has accused Jagan of conspiring with his father and others to cheat the state government by granting favours to many companies. The CBI counsel contended that it was only as part of the investigation that it was questioning persons allegedly involved in the case. Whenever the CBI needed, such persons were summoned for questioning and the central agency had taken up the investigation as per the directions of the High Court, the CBI counsel explained.Orders today on bail for RajagopalThe Special CBI Court on Tuesday reserved its orders on the bail application of former vice-chairman and managing director AP Mineral Development Corporation VD Rajagopal to Dec 14. After hearing arguments put forth by the counsels of the CBI and Rajagopal, magistrate B Naga Maruthi Sharma reserved the orders. Ravinder Reddy, counsel for Rajgopal, said his client was not involved in allotting the mining area in question to the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy. He said it was the state government which had sanctioned the mining area to the OMC. While Rajagopal, accused number three in the illegal mining case, is still lodged in the Chanchalguda Central prison here, the court has recently granted bail to accused number four in the case and senior IAS officer Y Srilakshmi after her arrest by the CBI. Later, the CBI counsel said they would file a review petition in the High Court challenging the bail granted to Srilakshmi.
