New Delhi: Two weeks after CBI took over investigations in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, the agency appeared to be making progress on Wednesday.
But it turned out to be a case of one step forward and two backwards.
First, Krishna, a former compounder with Dr Rajesh Talwar, was made a witness from a suspect. Then, the CBI took him for a narco-analysis test to Bangalore.
"We just wanted to find out the contradictions in his statement," said Joint Commissioner, CBI, Arun Kumar.
But that could not be done because of legal mishandling.
Then came the second break, as claimed by the agency. Raju, another former servant - so far believed to have died in an accident - suddenly reappeared. He was picked up from east Delhi at the behest of CBI.
But here too, the agency failed to explain how he was associated with the case.
These are only two incidents. Everyday, a new theory is floated by CBI officers. On Tuesday, they claimed to have almost solved the case and said the murder was pre-planned.
But on Wednesday, they seem to be as confused as the Noida police just after the murder.
Here are some of the other unanswered questions:
- What was the need for Krishna to undergo a narco test if the CBI wanted him to turn an approver?
- Was Krishna present at the scene of the crime?
- The Noida police discovered three glasses of alcohol in Hemraj's room, was Krishna one of the drinking partners?
- How is Raju linked to the murder?
- Was he the third person drinking alcohol with Krishna and Hemraj.
The CBI had said if investigations in the case had been handled properly from day one, the case could have been cracked within 24 hours. But two weeks after taking over, the agency has only added to the mystery.
