Chargesheet submitted against TTEs

KOLLAM: The chargesheet against the two TTEs, who allegedly hurled abusive words at poet M R Jayageetha, her husband and DYFI area secretary Shivaprasad in February, was submitted at the Kollam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.The chargesheet filed by the investigation team led by Ernakulam DSRP Prasad J has charged the two TTEs S Jaffar Hussain and G R Praveen under Section 509 (words or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 294(b) (uttering obscene words in any public place) of the IPC, Section 34(act done by several persons) and Section 119(1)(a) of the Kerala Police Act 2010 (special gestures and acts degrading the dignity of women in public place).Jayageetha, a research officer at the State Planning Board, had to face the harassment of the two accused while travelling in the Thiruvananthapuram -Chennai Super Fast Express on February 17.Her husband, Shivaprasad, who reached the station after being informed about the mistreatment, too had to face the abusive words of the TTEs at the Kollam Railway Station. She fainted following the incident and was admitted to a private hospital.The issue had created a stir and the two TTEs were suspended by the Southern Railway. Following the intervention of Railway union leaders, the suspension was revoked. Top officials had promised to take action against the two if found guilty.
