Chennai: In the backdrop of the gruesome attack on a bank employee in an ATM in Bangalore, the Chennai Police Commissioner S George met 105 representatives of around 40 banks in the city to review the security situation in ATMs.
At the meeting, the police commissioner suggested various measures to deal with the security problems. The police have asked banks to employ fit ATM guards at all centers.
The banks have also been asked to affix CCTV cameras at all ATMs. Banks have been advised to ensure that doors of the ATM open only after a customer inserts his ATM card to unlock it.
The police have asked all ATM doors to be made of transparent glass and all dark film to be removed. The CCTV recordings from ATMs should also be constantly monitored.
It has also been advised that CCTVs should be fixed on the exterior of the ATMs and also within all branches of banks. The banks have been asked to comply with these by the December 31.
