Chhattisgarh's Culture and Tourism department has asked its officials to prepare a special action plan for making Sirpur, known for its archaeological importance, a 'world heritage site'.

While reviewing the work of Culture and Archaeological Department in Raipur on Monday, state culture and tourism minster Ajay Chandrakar asked to collect articles and photographs on the archaeologically important places and ancient monuments of Sirpur and publish them, an official said in Raipur on Tuesday.

Sirpur town, located 78 kms away from Raipur on the banks of the river Mahanadi, finds mention in ancient epigraphic records.

Chandrakar directed the officials to ensure proper arrangement for maintenance and safety of the identified 58 archaeological places and other ancient monuments in the state, the official said.

The minister also asked to make a working plan of other places spotted to include them as archaeological sites of the state, he said.

Chandrakar also asked to ensure preparation of literature on the regional languages and costumes, culture and tradition of people, by taking help from the famous writers of the state, under the 'Chhattisgarhi Rajbhasha Ayog'.

The minister said along with the cultural activities of the state, literary activities were also required to be promoted, for which seminars should be held where national and international level speakers should be invited, the official added.
