Mumbai: Underworld don Chhota Rajan will reportedly be deported to India around 6:30 PM on Tuesday and the Mumbai police is preparing hard to nail the gangster. Sources said that Mumbai Police will quiz Rajan about hawala operations of his gang, arms and ammunition trafficking and his close associates.
The sources said that Rajan will also be questioned about Bollywood-underworld nexus as it is widely believed that several Bollywood celebrities attended the gangster's wedding in Dubai.
According to the sources, Mumbai Police will focus on journalist J Dey murder and Pakmodia street firing case apart from other cases registered against Rajan.
The sources further said that Mumbai Crime Branch will complete the sequencing of case papers by Tuesday and will decide on which case to stake his custody first.
The sources said that police has recovered four passports belonging to Rajan. The first passport was issued on his real name in 1984 which he used to escape to Dubai along with gangster Dawood Ibrahim. The second passport was issued in 1988 in India. Third passport was issued in 1998 from Zimbabwe and the fourth one was issued from India in 2008 on which he travelled to Bali leading to his arrest.
Even as there are security concerns over Rajan's transfer to Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "Chhota Rajan will be brought to Mumbai to face trial in the cases against him. We have made all preparations."
Intelligence sources said that Rajan shouldn't be handed over to Mumbai Police because of the vested interests of top police officers and rival gangs.
According to the sources, Rajan's life will be in danger in Mumbai and gangster Dawood Ibrahim's gang may launch an attack against him. The sources further said Rajan's security is the responsibility of the Central government and he must be handed over to the Interpol or the Central Bureau of Investigation, but not the Mumbai or Delhi Police.
Intelligence agencies have added that the CBI and Delhi Police also have cases against Rajan and they must be given due importance.
While speaking to CNN-IBN, former IPS officer YC Pawar said, "There is some substance to what Chhota Rajan said. Rajan is speaking half-truth. It might be true that Dawood has connection with Mumbai Police but so did Rajan but now none of those officers are there in the force anymore. Delhi Police cannot carry out out the investigation as the case is with Mumbai Police."
Earlier, Rajan claimed that some police officers in Mumbai are colluding with Dawood against him. Rajan reiterated that he's not afraid of Dawood and will fight against him.
Rajan added, "The Mumbai Police has been unjust with me and charges against me are false." He further said that he will stay wherever the government keeps him.
Rajan was nabbed at Bali airport on his arrival from Australia on October 25. The underworld don was arrested in Bali on the basis of a Red Corner Notice from Interpol and following a tip off by Australian authorities to the police in Indonesia.
