Chief Minister Oomman Chandy on Monday urged the Central Government to intervene in the decision of the oil companies to treat the Reticulated Gas System (piped network in an apartment complex as a single connection by which the entire flats in an apartment currently using the system will be eligible for only six subsidised cylinders every year.
In separate letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Chandy said that the decision should be revoked. At present, a single flat is considered as a single unit whereas in an apartment there would be several houses and several families, Chandy said.
There was widespread protest against the oil companies’ decision to restrict the subsidised gas cylinders. Several people in the state are presently living in flats and apartments. The decision of the oil companies could really affect the people, Chandy said in his letter.
The restriction should be put in place taking into account the number of families residing in the flats, he said.
AOAK Flays Decision of Oil Companies
Thiruvananthapuram: The Apartment Owners Association, Kerala (AOAK) on Monday protested against the oil companies’ decision to treat the reticulated gas system (piped network in an apartment complex) as a single connection by which all apartments currently using the system will be eligible for only six subsidised cylinders every year.
Stating that the decision was violation of the rights of the citizens, the Association said about two lakh people would be affected when a flat was considered as a single system.
The decision was anti-Constitutional and it could not be accepted, they said.
The decision of the oil companies was a blow to the residents, the Association said.
They demanded the government to ask the oil companies to withdraw from their decision of considering the flat as a single system. ENS
