CHITRADURGA: Residents of Chikka Madure village in Challakere taluk on Monday held a ritual of staying out of the village to praise the rain god to bless them with good rains this year. Villagers not only left the village, but also took food grains and their cattle and other belongings with them towards the outskirts of the village and performed a pooja. Meanwhile, they prepared various dishes and offer it to the gods. The villagers left the village at around 6 am and returned by 6 pm. Even government schools, hospital and other establishments remained closed during the day. Speaking to Express, Chandranna a villager said, “16 years back when there was a drought in the village, all houses are locked and we stayed outside the village and conducted a pooja in order to praise the rain god to receive good rains in the village.”“From 6 am to 6 pm we stay outside in the tents which have been pitched a day prior to the festival,” he added. Lakshamanappa, another villager said, “During our stay outside the village, the entire area will be fenced, in order to prevent any outsiders or alien elements from entering the village.”
