There are many religious and scientific reasons behind not performing any auspicious activity during the month of Ashada. Chikkamagaluru astrologer, Ashwattha Narayan Joshi has explained all the doubts and questions for the Local 18 viewers.
Ashada month is considered an inauspicious month, according to our Hindu calendar and any kind of deeds are not done for many reasons. The fourth month of the Hindu calendar is the Ashada month. It is believed that Lord Yoga falls asleep during this month, therefore, on this occasion, no auspicious activities including marriage, homecoming or upanayana, take place during this month, making it an inauspicious one.
Ashada month begins after the commencement of dry rains. This time, the Ashada month starts July 6, as the dry drains have already started. Thus, after the beginning of Ashada month, all the auspicious activities like marriage, house entry, upanayana, buying a vehicle and land, and starting a new business are prohibited.
There is also a natural reason behind this spiritual significance of Ashada Masa. Many believe that whatever work the ancestors did, they did with a sense of motive rooted in their own cultural and historical background. The start of Ashada month means the start of the rainy season. It is also considered that there is more rainfall during the Ashada month. Road traffic also faces a big problem due to heavy rainfall. Therefore, because of all these reasons, it is regarded as inconvenient to perform any kind of promising activities during the month of Ashada.
It is also believed that, in most auspicious situations, lord Yoga falls into a yoga sleep. As Dakshi Nyana, Chaturmasa starts here, no good activities can be performed. It is believed that doing meditation, devotion and fasting, one can please the Lord in the Ashada Masa. In a nutshell, there is a religious as well as a scientific reason for Ashada month.
