NEDUMBASSERY: The 12th annual celebrations of Kochi International Airport was held at Saj Earth Resort here the other day. Police personnel in huge numbers were deployed at the entrance to the venue in the wake of the ongoing protest by various trade unions.The trade unions such as CIA Staff Federation (CITU) and CIA Staff Association (INTUC), representing the CIAL employees, had decided to boycott the celebrations protesting against the adamant attitude of the CIAL management which failed to take any decision on the issues like promotion of employees since 2010 January, the inordinate delay in the inquiry into the Fire Department, the appointment to the post of drivers and the alleged corruption in outsourcing.The trade union leaders alleged that the CIAL management had taken illogical decisions to insult the employees.Meanwhile, the annual celebrations were conducted peacefully. CIAL managing director C G Krishnadas Nair said that the CIAL has crossed an important milestone. It has accumulated a massive amount of Rs 250 crore in sales in the last financial year.The charity wing of the company continued its commitment towards society by promoting health care, education and environment.CIAL is committed to the welfare of the employees, customers and society, he said.
