CII moots solar power for hoardings

The state government will consider CII’s proposal to encourage use of solar power for hoardings and other lightings in the state in order to save 200 to 300 MW of power. It is also considering various short and long-term plans to save power and produce more in the future.

Coveying the above thinking of the government to a delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry which meet him at the Secretariat here on Monday, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy assured industrialists that several short-term measures were being taken to overcome the power crisis. The government would do its best to pool power from all possible sources for supply to industry, he assured them. APTransco was buying 900 MW of power and encouraging solar and wind power projects in a big way, he said.

The chief minister asked the CII to consult other industries associations and come out with concrete proposals on overcoming the crisis. He wanted them to work out how much more energy they can produce at captive power plants and what support and incentives they needed for that.

Detailing the government’s long-term measures, he said the central government was being approached for gas supply to the gas-based power plants in the state. Some more gas-based power projects in the state would start commercial production soon, he said. Meanwhile Transco’s chairman-cum-managing director said industries were being allowed to purchase power. He said there were no power cuts to poultry farms.
