TIRUCHY: The first ever coffee table book published by the Railway Heritage Centre of Tiruchy Division will be released by Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishan at Tiruchy Junction on July 21.The 288-page book, The Marvels of South Indian Railway-1859-1951, is compiled by S Subramanyam, former divisional railway manager for Tiruchy.Speaking to Express, present Divisional Railway Manager P V Vaidiyalingam termed the book as well-conceived. He said the book would offer a comprehensive and rich overview of South Indian Railway of the 1859-1951 period. “It will capture the readers’ imagination through insightful pictures and nuggets of information,” Vaidiyalingam said.The book has 52 articles on a wide range of subjects, such as black beauties of South Indian Railway, different logos, Railway Heritage Centre in Tiruchy, railway training school, historic run of the first train from Negapatnam (Nagapattinam-Tiruvallur), Nilgiri Mountain Railway and financial statistics and catering department. The book is priced at `900.
