CPI-M condemns terror attack on CRPF camp
Every effort should go to uncover the terrorist networks now, says the CPI-M.

New Delhi: Describing the pre-dawn terror attack on a CRPF camp in Uttar Pradesh as shocking, the CPI-M on Tuesday said it was also "worrying" that the attack had taken place despite prior intelligence about it.

"It is shocking that such an attack could take place on a central paramilitary force institution in the heart of the country. It is also worrying that the attack has taken place despite prior intelligence alert of the possibility of such a terrorist strike in the area," the party Politburo said in a statement.

"There has to be an explanation of what were the lapses which led to the terrorist squad entering the camp after taking the guards by surprise," it said, adding that the incident came after the bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh.

This incident should make the Centre and the state government "gear up their intelligence and security systems.

No effort should be spared to uncover the terrorist networks operating in the country," the CPI-M said.

Five jawans and two civilians were killed in a suicide attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Tuesday.

The attack took place at 0230 hrs (IST) when armed fidayeens reportedly tried to enter the camp from the gate. At least six troopers are reportedly injured.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Gupta told news agency PTI that the terrorists armed with AK-47s and grenades opened fire at the camp and killed the troopers after being intercepted by the jawans and civil police patrolling the site.

They are believed to have first gunned down the sentry before barging into the nearest tent and opening fire from their assault rifles.
