THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parmeswaran has called upon the CPM to clarify that in which way the party’s proposed ‘Indian Socialism’ would be different from the Secular Socialism enshrined in the Constitution. Responding to the CPM politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai’s statement that the party was going to adopt ‘Indian Socialism’ as its ideology, Parameswaran said in a statement that Pillai’s statement was an open confession that so far the Communist Party of India was not really Indian in its ideology or structure and it was only an offshoot of either the Russian or Chinese Communist Party. Now that both Russia and China have practically adopted the capitalist path and it is out of helplessness that the CPM has started thinking of Indian Socialism whatever its means. Ramachandran Pillai’s statement was neither original nor a creative idea, he said. ‘’More than 100 years ago, Swami Vivekananda had spoken about ‘Vedantic Socialism’. Later, a desperate Hindu Maha Sabha came forward with the idea of ‘Hindu Socialism’. Our Constitution already includes ‘Secular Socialism’. In which way the CPM’s proposed ‘Indian Socialism’ will be different from the Secular Socialism enshrined in the Constitution?’’ he asked.Pope’s Cuba VisitS Ramachandran Pillai’s downplaying of the statement by Pope Benedict XVI that ‘’Communism is outdated and lost its relevance’’ by saying that it was only a personal remark does not carry weight. ‘’It must be remembered that it was John Paul II who hit the first nail on the coffin of Marxist movement in Europe. Pope Benedict now seeks to hit the last nail on the coffin of the Communist movement in the Western hemisphere,’’ Parameswaran said in his statement.
