Thiruvanathapuram: The Crime Branch of Kerala Police has started a probe against former state police chief T P Senkumar for his alleged anti-minority remarks.
In an interview with a Malayalam magazine, Senkumar had allegedly said that of the every 100 children born in Kerala, 42 were Muslims. He suggested that the birth rate was high considering that the Muslim population in the state was 27 per cent.
It was also reported that he spoke about the presence of “Love Jihad” in the state. Senkumar had refuted the allegations saying that his remarks had been twisted.
State DGP Loknath Behra has assigned ADGP Nitin Agarwal to conduct investigations into the case. The police have received eight complaints against Senkumar for creating communal polarisation in the state.
While Senkumar’s statements got support from the BJP and Sangh Parivar outfits, the Left parties and the Muslim League hit out against the former police chief accusing him of propagating the saffron agenda. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithla said he was blowing the trumpet of the Sangh Parivar.
Senkumar also attended a function organised by BJP mouthpiece “Janmabumi” giving rise to speculations that he was planning to join the party. Recently, a delegation of BJP leaders had called on him at his residence. The BJP leaders claimed that politics was not discussed during the meeting. Senkumar has also denied plans of joining any political party.
