BANGALORE: The High Court on Wednesday directed the Deputy Commissioner of Mysore to vacate a bar opened adjacent to a school and a temple in Mysore within eight weeks.
Petitioner Sriranga, a resident of Sriramapura in Mysore, had moved to the High Court seeking the eviction of the bar set up within 100 meters from the school and the temple, violating the norms.A single judge bench of Justice S Abdul Nazeer directed the Deputy Commissioner of Mysore and Excise DC to pass an appropriate order within eight weeks.

The petitioner had sought directions to shift the bar owned by H R Leelavathi in the vicinity. Counsel for the petitioners, A G Sridhar submitted that, following the representation by the residents, the Deputy Commissioner himself arrived on the spot and the measured the distance between the bar, the school and the temple.

The counsel for the respondents submitted that a reply to the Excise DC's notice has been sent.

Complainants Daniel Mishak and others stated that they had bought sites from the City Municipal Council in 1988 by paying `1,766 each. However, the civic body has not issued ownership certificates of the sites till date, they contended. Hearing the petition, a Single Judge Bench of Justice S Abdul Nazeer asked them, why they did not approach the court earlier and directed the Chickballapur City Municipal Council and Deputy Commissioner of Kolar to consider the matter immediately.
