New Delhi: IFS officer Devyani Khobragade has been appointed as the personal secretary to Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale.
Khobragade, a former deputy consul general in New York had been accused of ill treating her maid and subsequently arrested.
The incident had triggered a diplomatic row between the US and India. The Indian government had ensured her return to India but her career had received a set back after the case.
Her father Uttam Khobragade, also a civil servant had reportedly lobbied with Athawale's party RPI for a Parliament seat.
