CHENNAI: For those of you who thought that drifting in Chennai ended with Need for Speed, think again. Meet Terry Grant, who will demonstrate some of his best stunt and drift moves as a part of India's first Sports Car Drifting show at the Madras Motor Sports Club, Irungattukottai, tomorrow at 11am. Having graduated from riding a motorbike and cars on his farm when he was five to having 15 world records for stunts, Terry lets us in on why he is a compulsive adrenaline junkieWhat can Chennai expect from you?I once did a namaste atop a spinning car when I did my first show in Delhi. It was well received by the spectators and I have planned to do something similar here, too. Does drifting have takers in India?Drifting is catching up all over the world and India is also slowly opening up to the sport. There is a lot of talent here, but there are only a few exclusive stuntmen who perform this daredevilry. Its a shame that stuntmen in Bollywood don't get much pay or recognition; unless someone makes a film on them.Which is your stand-out stunt? There's this stunt where the car goes into a loop and comes back to its position, which is the most dangerous - and that's my favourite! When I attempted it for the first time, I injured myself, but two days later, I performed it at a show successfully.Your favourite high in your stunt racing career? When I participated in the Legends Racing Series in the US, I came from behind to win the race. Just before the finish line, I did the donut (victory roll) to celebrate. But the locals didn't get it and the cops escorted me out of the state. Later, we became great friends and I even went back to perform live stunt shows. How did the adrenaline-pumping racing craze begin? My parents have represented the UK in various motorsports and I got behind the wheels much before I was eight. Stunts with cars followed just to show off and people enjoyed it. Eventually, I decided to concentrate on stunt driving full time.
