HYDERABAD: The only competition Hyderabadi cuisine will ever have is that of itself. Known for its Biriyani, haleem and kebabs, food connoisseurs across the city constantly keep experimenting with the taste hoping to better the previous experience.Firdaus at Taj Krishna is on a similar endeavour with their Kebab and Biriyani fest. Sliced, diced, mixed and garnished by Chef Jehangir, the spread is one more delicacy that must tried from the long list of Hyderabadi cuisine. Serving a platter full of both vegetarian and non vegetarian kebab and a more than a single course of biriyani, the fest gives one the choice between Bhatti ke shakarkandi (grilled sweet potato, a chef special), tandoori pudina malai aloo, kumbh galouti (grilled mushroom), Kakori kebab (minced meat), Kasturi kebab and Macchli gandhraj. Jackfruit lovers will be ecstatic at the Kathal biryani while meat eaters can look forward to the kachi gosht ki dum biriyani. Now the names might or might not seem alien, but the taste is something most everyone will find comfortingly familiar yet unexpectedly different. The combination of spices and marinated meat do wonders to the appetite while the cleverly garnished vegetables will keep you happy. What makes the meal most delightful is the well cooked presentation of the meal. Vegetarians will find their vegetables done just about enough to give it a cooked crunchy texture while the lamb through out the meal will be a delight for being just right - not over cooked to make it appetising nor slightly under cooked for the meaty texture. A huge brownie point. Now once you’re done with the meal, the sudden heavy weight of a well-fed tummy might restrict your appetite. So be sure to keep place for the dessert. Not just because it is dessert, but also because you wouldn’t want to miss the novelty of the palak kova - something that must be tasted to be believed.Besides that, you will be tempted to dig a little into the kulfi and double ka meetha. If you really there for the food, then you shouldn’t face too much trouble. Where there’s always food, there’s always place.Just like how Firdaus cleverly picked their crockery to fit into each other, with the meal done, you’ll feel just as simpatico. The fest is on at the restaurant Firdaus in Taj Krishna, Road No 1, Banjara Hills till November 12 from 12:30 to 3 pm and 7:30 pm till midnight.
