HYDERABAD: In a big relief to the government, the Election Commission (EC) has relaxed certain provisions of the model code of conduct on an experimental basis. The EC has issued relaxations for implementing NREGA, extending drought relief, digging borewells, agricultural inputs, input subsidies and taking up developmental work in all districts except those constituencies where bypolls are due.Addressing a press conference here on Friday, chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal said that barring those constituencies going for bypolls, work relating to NREGS, drought relief works, drinking water problems and other issues could be taken up in all other districts.Other curbs like ministers tours, advertisements to media, use of govt guest houses and official machinery for poll campaign and transfer of officers will remain applicable in those districts in which the constituency going for bypolls is situated. It can be recalled that the state government dashed off a letter to the Election Commission to allow Prajapatham programme to be continued in view of the prevailing drought where there is severe shortage of drinking water problem in various gram pachayats, mandals and villages.
