EFLU student molested by professor

HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old research scholar at English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) was allegedly molested by her professor, who is also her advisory committee member, at the University guest house Tuesday. The 45-year-old professor, Rajat Kumar Mohanty, is a faculty (UGC-ENCORE) at the varsity’s Computational Linguistics department.The scholar, who hails from West Bengal, is residing in the Mahalaqa Bai Chanda women’s hostel on campus and is pursuing her Ph.D in Linguistics and Phonetics. According to her, the professor phoned her on Tuesday asking her to meet him at the EFLU guest house where he is staying. “Though I was feeling a bit feverish, I had to go to the guest house as the professor insisted that I come. I also had some assignments to discuss with him,” the victim reportedly told the University’s Women Protection Cell.She went along with her laptop and some books to the professor’s room at the guest house in the afternoon. “Inspite of discussing my assignment, he started to talk about general things and touched me on the pretext of checking if I had fever. When I resisted and attempted to leave the room, he molested me. I forced my way out of the room,” she told the Cell.After informing the matter to her friends and University authorities, the girl lodged a complaint with the Osmania University police. A case under section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) was filed against the professor.
