Emulate Belgian model: Vasan

CHENNAI:  With the High Court rejecting the Port’s review petition on handling dusty cargo at the port, Union Minister for Shipping G K Vasan on Friday advised the Port Trust authorities to emulate Belgian expertise to migrate to a clean-cargo handling port.Addressing a Belgian trade delegation during a meeting with the Port authorities, Vasan said, “The MoU entered into by the ports of Chennai and Zeebrugge in 2008 planned to promote the exchange of ideas, technology and other inputs to make the Chennai Port a clean cargo port.  “The Zeebrugge Port successfully transitioned from handling dusty cargo. Emulating their expertise by reviewing the scope of MoU will help the Chennai Port,” Vasan said. “There is ample scope for India and Belgium to work together on port development projects,” he added.
