Chandigarh: Doctors and staff at Mohali Phase six Civil hospital were shocked when a man approached the doctor to sell his newborn baby girl on Monday night. He was carrying the baby in a bag.
The accused, Jaspal Singh, told the doctor on duty that his wife had given birth to a boy at 2 pm on Monday and that he wanted to sell the child. When the doctor asked where was the baby, Jaspal showed a plastic carry bag which had the baby inside it.
The baby was immediately taken to the emergency room where the doctors found it was a baby girl. The baby was sick and constantly vomiting.
The police were informed and Jaspal was taken into custody. Jaspal has two sons aged 10 and 5.
Jaspal works at Reliance Fresh store at KV Mall in Mohali. He set out to sell the baby just hours after her birth.
He said he needed money for his wife's treatment and alleged that he had come to sell the baby as his wife told him to.
The baby is in a critical condition.
