New Delhi: Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has reportedly signed a deal with Ferrari starting in 2010.
According to the Guardian, the news could be officially announced in the run-up to Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.
The Spanish driver, who finished third in Singapore Grand Prix to score Renault's first podium finish of the season, will partner Felipe Massa after reportedly agreeing to a three-year contract worth in excess of $30 million.
Although Kimi Raikkonen has a contract with Ferrari till 2010, it is believed the Finn will return to the McLaren-Mercedes squad next year to partner Lewis Hamilton.
Renault has been thrown into disarray after the International Automobile Federation (FIA) banned the team's former boss Flavio Briatore from the sport indefinitely and suspended chief engineer Pat Symonds for five years in a case of race-fixing.
Renault had been accused of fraudulent conduct and bringing the sport into disrepute by conspiring with Brazilian Nelson Piquet Junior to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Alonso went on to win the race but was cleared by the FIA of any wrongdoing.
The team's stand-in Managing Director Jean-Francois Caubet said it would be sad to see Alonso leave.
Alonso has won the title twice with Renault in 2005 and 2006.
