The much awaited festive season in the country will kick-start on August 24 with Rakshabandhan followed by Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and Diwali. And of course, Christmas.
To encash on these holidays, Bollywood films have scheduled their releases accordingly. The Dharma Production’s next release, ‘We Are Family’. was earlier scheduled to release on September 3, Friday but instead it will now release on September 2, Thursday to take advantage of the public holiday for the festival of Janmashtami. Trade analyst Vajir Singh says, “This is a smart move by Karan Johar. ‘We Are Family’ is a limited budget film and now it will be able to take advantage of 4 days long weekend.”
On Id-ul-Fitr, September10 releases the much awaited Salman Khan starrer 'Dabangg'. Trade analyst, Amod Mehra says, “This is one movie that will be the biggest hit of the festive season.” He adds, “The movie has already generated lots of interest and also Salman Khan is looking in good form in the movie.” Vajir Singh adds, “In the trade circles 'Dabangg' is already titled a hit film. It has created a great buzz around it and people will go out to watch this movie.”
'Dabangg' will be followed by Viviek Oberoi’s 'RaktCharitra' on September 17 and Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor’s 'Anjaana Anjaani' releases on September 24. Amod says, “This one is also an awaited movie but it may do good or may not. There is no surety about it.”
The 9 days of Navratri from October 8 to 16 and it will witness the release of two Bollywood films – Emraan Hashmi’s 'Crook: It’s Good to be Bad' that releases on Oct 8. And on October 15, two other movie releases namely John Abraham’s ‘Jhootha Hee Sahi’ and Sanjay Dutt;s ‘Knock Out’.
And closer Diwali on November 5 ‘Golmaal 3’ will be back to tickle our funny bone. Vajir says, “We think that even this movie should do pretty good.” Amod adds, “Going by the results of the last two movies of the Golmaal trilogy and the festive mood of Diwali, Golmaal should do well.” And with Golmaal Akshay Kumar and Aishwariya Rai’s 'Action Replayy’ releases as well.
