Thiruvananthapuram: Marathi film 'Dhoosar' (blurred), about people suffering from Alzheimers disease, succeeded in creating an awareness in the community about the disease, filmmaker Amol Palekar said today.

"As a filmmaker, we are happy that the film is received very well by the audience especially in Maharasthra and also generated an awareness about the dreadful nature of the disease'," Paleker told reporters here.

'Dhoosar' is about the changing hues of a mother-daughter relationship as dementia affects the elder one.

Palekar said as per a study there are 3.7 million people affected by the disease in the country and among them 2.5 million were women.

Kerala has highest number of dementia cases followed by Rajashthan, Himachal Pradesh Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, he said.

"We tend to ignore problems until one gets hit by it. None of us know whether some day we will also be affected by this dreadful disease," he added.
