THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting convened on Wednesday by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the top brass of State Police decided to implement a five-tier security system for the treasure trove inside Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. At present, a three-tier security system is being employed here. The police, in the meeting convened at the State Police Headquarters here, estimated the total expense of the security arrangements at Rs 40 crore. According to sources, the authorities also decided in the meeting to implement the security measures recommended by the technical committee appointed by the Supreme Court, including satellite and radar surveillance. The security measures will be installed in three stages. About 60 surveillance cameras will be installed in and around the temple.A specialised control room to monitor the inputs from the satellite and radar. Besides Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the meeting was attended by Home Secretary K Jayakumar, Director-General of Police Jacob Punnoose, Additional Directors-General of Police A Hemachandran and Venugopal K Nair and Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham.
