Kolkata: Two former Maoist guerrillas, who were detained on Saturday for wandering near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence, later met her and complained that they were yet to get the promised rehabilitation package. The duo were detained after they were found wandering near Banerjee's house in Bhowanipore. They were trying to meet Banerjee.
The two were brought to the state secretariat - the Writers' Buildings - where they finally met the chief minister.
"Chiranjeet Saha and Sukhdeb Mahato met the CM (chief minister) complaining that they are yet to get the entire rehabilitation package they are entitled to on surrendering," Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee said.
"They even went to her residence but could not meet. Later they were brought to the secretariat where the CM after meeting them assured that they will get all the rehabilitation benefits as soon as possible," he said.
The Trinamool Congress-led government had revised the surrender-cum-rehabilitation package for the guerrillas providing a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 for a period of three years, along with a fixed deposit of Rs 1.5 lakh.
The surrendering rebels are also entitled to receive between Rs 25,000 and Rs 2 lakh depending on the type of weapon they laid down.
