A local court today sentenced a former activist of the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India to two years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for spreading communal hatred.

A local court today sentenced a former activist of the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India to two years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for spreading communal hatred.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Deepak Kumar Pandey handed out the sentence to Rafiq alias Babloo (46).

According to the prosecution, Babloo was arrested in Garibnawaj Colony here on September 27, 2001 while spreading communal hatred on the issue of the ban on SIMI and instigating the people to take out a protest march.
