A herd of five elephants had entered the area from Dalma forest in neighbouring Bankura district after crossing Damodar river on Saturday

Bardhaman: Four persons were killed and at least two others injured by a herd of elephants in separate incidents in Bardhaman district on Sunday, a forest department official said.

According to the forest official, a herd of elephant ran amok during the wee hours of Sunday morning in Nashigram village under Bhatar police station, trampling Anandamoyee Rai and Narayan Chandra Maji, both 60-year-old, to death

In another incident at Baghasole village under Manteswar police station, Prakash Boyra (40) died after an elephant flung him to the ground by its trunk and trampled him.

Siraj Sheikh (45) who was working in his field was killed in the following attack of elephants while two people were injured.

The herd of five elephants had entered the area from Dalma forest in neighbouring Bankura district after crossing Damodar river on Saturday and later the forest department personnel tried to push the herd back in the forest but they returned damaging crops and killing and injuring people.
