BHUBANESWAR: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Monday signed an agreement with the State Government and the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) to develop infrastructure for supply of electricity to habitations in 5 km radius around NTPC thermal power stations. The national power major has two power generating stations - the 460 MW Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS), Talcher, and the 3000 MW Talcher Super Thermal Power Station (TSTPS), Kaniha. NTPC will develop infrastructure and also supply the power required under the scheme as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). This will be in addition to the State’s share from the two generating stations, NTPC regional executive director R Venkateswaran told mediapersons. The scheme will cover 118 villages and 207 habitations covering 28,458 households including 9,006 BPL families in five blocks Kaniha, Talcher, Odapada, Barjang and Banharpal of Angul district benefiting about 1.37 lakh people. The total project cost has been estimated at ` 29.50 crore and this will be borne by the NTPC. It will be completed in 12 months. On completion of the project, the infrastructure will be handed over to CESU for operation and maintenance, he said  The additional power requirement will be 14.32 MW and it will be supplied by NTPC in additional to the State’s allocated share, Minister of State for Energy Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said. Two 33 KV substations will be constructed and another two of the same capacity  renovated by the NTPC. The other works include laying of 10-km 11 KV XLPE cable, laying of 8 km of 11 KV arial bunch (AB) cable, laying of 225 km of 11 KV conductors, installation of 230 three-phase distribution transformers and supply of free single lamp electricity connection to each BPL households and one-time supply of LED bulb. Venkateswaran signed the agreement with Energy Secretary G Mathivathanan and CESU chairman BC Jena in the presence of the Energy Minister at the Secretariat.
